At GIAG we believe that art has the ability to connect people, inspire creativity, and transform everyday spaces into meaningful experiences. Our mission is simple yet powerful: to bring beauty and art to Irmo through creative expression and community engagement.

Through public art projects, community events and collaborative opportunities for artists of all levels, we strive to make art accessible to everyone while fostering a vibrant and inclusive creative culture. whether it's a mural that brightens a local street, an interactive art activity at a community event, or a partnership that brings artists together, GIAG is committed to making a lasting impact.

We invite you to explore, participate, and be a part of a growing movement that celebrates creativity and strengthens community, one brushstroke at a time.

How did the Guild come about?

The Greater Irmo Art Guild(GIAG) was born from a single mural and a shared vision to bring more art into the heart of Irmo.

In the early summer of 2025, local artists Sean Madden and Kimberly Winn were commissioned to paint a mural on the side of Mathia's Sandwich Shop. With the support of Gabriel Penfield and Brent Chitwood, who assisted with fundraising efforts and hands on preparation, including pressure washing and underpainting, the project quickly became a true community collaboration.

By July 2025, the team unveiled the vibrant "Irmo Yellow Jacket" mural, a bold and meaningful piece that captured local pride and demonstrated the power of public art to transform shared spaces.

Inspired by the success of that project, the group, now joined by Kimberley Oakley, came together with a bigger idea: to create an organization dedicated to fostering art throughout the community. What started as a conversation soon turned into action, with the first Great Irmo Art Guild interest meeting held in August 2025.

Since that initial gathering, GIAG has continued to grow and formalize its mission. The organization has since been incorporated as both an LLC and an official nonprofit 501(c)(3), laying the foundation for long-term impact and community engagement.

From one mural to a movement, the Greater Irmo Arts Guild stands as a testament to what can happen when artists and community members come together with a shared purpose; to create, inspire, and bring lasting beauty to Irmo.
